On the south western top of Anglesey at the entrance to Caernarfvon Bar, lies Newborough Warren and Pilot’s Cove. This charming, isolated little cove is a haven for boaters and wildlife enthusiasts alike. For useful stopping off points, head up to the coastal towns of Trearddur Bay and Rosnieger. |

Be sure to check the tide times as you circumnavigate your way round South Stack otherwise you’ll be in for a bumpy ride! Views of the lighthouse and surrounding cliffs are equally as dramatic from the sea and land, and bear the brunt of the South Westerlies. Passing the more understated North Stack, you then begin the approach into Holyhead, edging along the sea wall into this thriving port and fully equipped marina. |

Amlwch is a quiet sleepy town that has a small harbour and fishing fleet. It is a useful stopping off point, as is Moelfre, which provides a safe mooring for the night. |

The Northern approach into Conwy takes in Puffin Island, a charming little island that plays host to hundreds of sea birds (though not puffins!) and lies less than a mile off the Eastern tip of Anglesey. A narrow channel separates the two and is marked by a lighthouse, which marks the entrance into the Menai Straits. Although this is no anchorage on Puffin Island, moorings are available at the nearby Beaumaris, making this an easy half day’s sail from Conwy. |
